Royal Aeronautical Society Bay of Plenty Branch Meeting

When: Friday 04 December 2020 at 5pm for 6pm start
Where: Classic Flyers, 9 Jean Batten Place, Mt Maunganui
Speaker: Mike Feisst
Subject: Impressions of the Aircraft Collection of the Late John Smith - Now on show Omaka WW2 and Biggin Hill

Following Mike and Lois' recent trip to Nelson, Mike is ready to share his impressions of the aircraft he saw at Omaka, which had been brought from the treasure trove that John Smith collected at Mapua. Gavin Conroy spoke to the volunteers at Classic Flyers, indicating that the aircraft still had all fittings and fixtures still as they had been when acquired, and that the structure was complete. After a clean-up, these aircraft would be ready for display at Omaka Aviation Heritage, near Blenheim.

Following Mike's previous walk-through of the HARS Aviation Museum at Illawarra, NSW, expect a thorough review of these recently uncovered WW2 original aircraft which are destined to remain in NZ. This collection is what you hear about overseas - now we have an important 'time capsule' of WW2 aircraft types which will stay in NZ.

Please register your intention to attend with Des Underwood to help ensure there are enough Christmas nibbles! Gold coin contribution appreciated.
