RAeS New Zealand Division 34th Annual Symposium, AGM & Awards Dinner

Around 100 people enjoyed the very successful symposium held on Friday 1st November at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Wellington.

The theme of the symposium was CHALLENGES FACING AVIATION -Equipment -People –Regulation.

Keynote speaker, Hon Phil Twyford, Minister of Transport was followed by industry speakers over four sessions.

Speakers included:
Air Vice Marshal Andrew Clark, CAF;
John Vincent -RAeS Australian Division;
Herwin Bongers, NZALPA;
SQNLDR George Magdalinos,
RNZAF; Richard Bennenbroek, L3Harris Airline Academy;
Prof Milo P. Kral, University of Canterbury;
Graeme Harris, CAA;
John Nicholson, Aviation New Zealand;
Mike Lynskey, ASPEQ;
Neil Hygate, Ministry of Defence;
Anna Shaw, CAA –NSS;
WGCDR Mark Stevens, RNZAF & Rob McGivern BECA.

Each session was followed by a panel discussion.

The Division AGM followed the symposium and later in the evening,after cocktails,the New Zealand Division Awards Dinner.The 85 people enjoyed the evening and our opportunity to recognise New Zealanders who have made a considerable contribution to aviation in New Zealand.

Of note for Wellington members was a Meritorious Award to Des Underwood. Des was a longtime member of the Wellington Branch and committee prior to his retirement and move to Tauranga.At Tauranga Des has had a major hand in establishing the new Bay of Plenty Branch. We have presentations planned and others in the pipeline for next year. We welcome your suggestions for others.
