John Chisholm–Aviation Entrepreneur, Company Director and Founder, Owner and Operator of Innovative Middle East Airline,Texel Air
John’s presentation will cover the operation of his Bahrain-based non-scheduled passenger airline, Texel Air and in particular the introduction of his latest project, the Boeing 737-700 Flex-Combi. He will also touch on his exciting (and ongoing) 35-year career in the airline and express logistics industry in the Middle East and further afield including operating during three wars and other extreme situations.
John came from an agricultural and farming background including farm management and operating his own agricultural contracting business in Southland. In 1973 he found himself joining DHL in UK a move that led to 28 years of senior positions with DHL in the Middle East through tumultuous times of growth and challenges. In 2006 John set up his own company Chisholm Enterprises SPC in Bahrain whose role included charter aircraft capacity support to various government and commercial customers. Not satisfied with this, he established his own airline Texel Air using Boeing 737-300 combi freighters.
His company has support facilities including a Maintenance, Repair Operation and hangar at Bahrain Airport that has provided support to many allied aircraft operators. Texel Air’s staff includes several New Zealanders some of whom will be known to RAeS members. Texel Air is the launch customer for PEMCO’s Boeing 737-700 Multi-Combi freighter that John will introduce to service as replacements for the B737-300fleet.
John also has interest and background in the operation and support of large Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and their potential use in the New Zealand context John and his wife Nynke recently moved to Upper Moutere near Nelson where he has returned to part-time (and quite exotic) farming, but he continues to travel several times a year to Bahrain, Washington DC and some more challenging locations to further develop his aviation operations.
