Wellington Airport Operations

DATE: THURSDAY 24 August 2017
SPEAKER: Lachlan Thurston
SUBJECT: Wellington Airport Operations
TIME: 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start
VENUE: National SCOUT Centre, Level 1, 1 Kaiwharawhara Road, Wellington (opposite Spotlight) – Gold coin donation please.

This month Lachlan Thurston will touch on aspects of WIAL as a business and what an airport operator actually does and where they see themselves in the future. WIAL is the owner operator of Wellington International Airport. Corporatized in 1989 its role as a commercial entity, as with any company, is to make a return on investment for its stakeholders.

Last month John Lanham talked about the A4K/G Skyhawk in RNZAF service, pre-KAHU Update, 1970-1990. John Lanham's years in the RNZAF included the decision making of the 1960s on the Canberra B(I)12 replacement, the introduction of the Skyhawk and eventually three flying tours on the aircraft, totalling 1000 Skyhawk hours.

Amongst the highlights for him were numerous deployments including Vanguards to SEA, RIMPAC in Hawaii and Cope Thunder in the Philippines, the celebrated Kin Nan incident, leading the aerobatic team, the acquisition of the RAN Skyhawks and the reforming of No 2 Squadron. Read more about John's presentation in the attached Wings and Things.

Members, friends and all interested in Lachlan's presentation are welcome and encouraged to join us - National SCOUT Centre 5:30 for 6:00pm start – Thursday 24 August Level 1, 1 Kaiwharawhara Road, Wellington (opposite Spotlight). Please forward on to anyone that maybe interested – thanks.
